ToK: historical knowledge

ToK is the theory of knowledge for the IB program, in which we discover different fields of knowledge. Todays ToK day was all about historical knowledge.
We arrived in Basel at 9.30 and directly headed off to the Antiquity museum to look at the exhibition. Each group had to present an object of their topic in the exhibition and link it to the roman empire at the Rhein. We discussed the difference between different knowledges and how due to different topics or time periods, it is harder to deduct how reliable the knowledge is. For example items traded by the Romans hundreds of years ago, is very interpreted knowledge, as the evidence (ex. Salt, metals, etc.) is long since gone and there is no written evidence.
After lunch break we then took the ferry/boat over to the other side of the Rhein. We walked for a
while and discussed the different bridges and their historic backgrounds. Here again the same topic of reliability and evidence of the knowledge linked to the background of the bridges was addressed.
